Foundation

2005

A group of Professors and researchers from the University of Calabria (Unical), the Vienna University of Technology and The University of Oxford establishes DLVSystem to promote one of the most successful and widely used systems for advanced database applications, knowledge representation and reasoning (DLV). The new company is actively involved in some research projects and works closely with the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Unical.

Implementation of research findings

2008

DLVSystem s.r.l wins the PIA regional program (Pacchetti Integrati di Agevolazione Industria, Artigianato e Servizi) and receives funds for implementing all the research prototypes that gave life to DLV technologies and for the training of R&D staff.

Academic spin-off

2009

The Board of Directors of the University of Calabria unanimously recognizes DLVSystem s.r.l as University Spin Off. DLVSystem s.r.l. is among the winners of the Competition “PROGETTO C.R.E.S.C.I.T.A” promoted and realized by Calpark S.C.p.A. – Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico della Calabria. The company, thanks to its innovative Business Plan, wins the first prize of “Start Cup Calabria” and is incorporated into the incubator TECHNEST of UNICAL.

Startup

2010

The Calabria Region finances the implementation of the DLV. The company hires the first employees. The implementation plan is based on an outstanding Research and Technological Development Project aiming at:

  • Improving the features already available in the DLV system, by using new algorithms and optimization techniques to make the system more efficient and able to deal with large amounts of data;
  • Extending and strengthening the DLV system with new features required by real applications in order to successfully apply the system;
  • Making the system suitable for two real application domains: Data Integration and Knowledge Management.

Launch of the Product Suite

2013

The company releases a DLV Business Suite consisting in a number of products for industrial use. The Suite also provides a set of extensions for interaction with DBMS, ontologies and major programming languages (e.g. JAVA).

Industry Testing

2015

DLVSystem strongly focuses on the development of applications on industrial use cases that play an important role for business growth.

Growth

2018 – nowadays

In order to attract new customers and entering new partnerships with public and private entities, DLVSystem starts the porting of DLV technology on smart devices and distributed environments. DLV products are implemented for use on Big Data and interaction with other paradigms of Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision).
